This page is for parents and educators. It explains what Foreign Words contains, how it supports learning, and the measures we take to keep children safe while using the app.
Foreign Words is designed for children ages 6–8 and rated 4+ on the App Store. It teaches foreign language vocabulary through picture matching games — a proven method that helps young learners associate words with images. The app is equally suitable for older children and adults, but the content, pacing, and safety measures are built with younger learners in mind.
The app teaches 360 vocabulary words across 7 languages (Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and English) through 24 real-world categories such as animals, food, colors, numbers, nature, and clothing. Children learn by matching pictures to words, building recognition and recall through repetition and play.
All vocabulary and images have been individually reviewed to ensure they are appropriate for young children. Categories that could contain unsuitable content — such as alcohol, tobacco, weapons, or morbid themes — have been removed and replaced with kid-friendly topics like toys, school supplies, and nature.
We designed Foreign Words so that children can use it independently without encountering anything unexpected:
Certain features are protected behind a math-based parental gate — a simple arithmetic question designed to be solvable by adults but not by young children. The parental gate protects:
Foreign Words stores game progress (scores, preferences, achievements) locally on the device only. No data is transmitted to our servers or shared with third parties. The app optionally integrates with Apple Game Center for leaderboards and achievements; Game Center is managed by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
