Silent Spice ("we", "our", or "us") makes Parallax (the "App"), a game of Netrek for Mac, iPad and Apple TV. This policy explains what the App keeps on your device, what it sends and to whom, and how to turn the optional parts off.
Your mission progress, star ratings, Skirmish setup, key and controller settings, and the Netrek name you choose are stored on your device using the operating system's standard storage. If you save a Netrek password, it is kept in your device's Keychain. None of this is sent to us.
Training missions, the tutorial and Skirmish run on a game server built into the App. They are played entirely on your device and need no network connection to play.
Netrek is played online on public game servers run by volunteers in the Netrek community. We do not run these servers and do not control what they record. When you play online:
About Netrek passwords: Netrek is a game from 1989, and its network protocol is not encrypted. A password you send to a Netrek server can be read on the way, and servers are not known for storing passwords safely. Never reuse a password from any other account, or simply play as a guest, which needs no password at all.
If you are signed in to Game Center, the App reports your mission achievements and leaderboard scores to Apple's Game Center so they appear on your profile. Apple handles that data under Apple's Privacy Policy. You can sign out of Game Center in your device's settings, and the App works the same without it.
The App reports anonymous usage analytics so we can see which missions people play, where they get stuck, and which controls they use. Apart from the online play and Game Center described above, this is the only information the App sends off your device.
What is sent: the name of something you did (for example, that a mission was started, finished or failed, or that the App was opened) with simple counts, plus basic technical context: device model, operating system version, App version, language and time zone.
What is never sent: your Netrek name or password, your chat messages, the servers you join, your Game Center identity, your location, or any advertising identifier. We do not collect your name or email address.
Each installation gets a random identifier so repeat use can be counted without identifying anyone. It is not tied to your name, an email address or any account, it is not shared with other apps, and it is deleted when you delete the App.
Analytics are processed for us by TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics provider that does not build advertising profiles. Data is encrypted in transit.
You can turn this off at any time in the App's settings. The App works exactly the same either way.
The App shows no advertising and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Online Netrek servers are public and have open chat run by the community, not by us, so we recommend that a parent help a younger player choose a guest name and stay with the built-in training missions and Skirmish, which never go online.
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and update the date above.
